Our History

The Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members was founded in 1978 by Dr. Charles Matthews and a group of African American trustees to address issues affecting Black students, teachers, and board members, evolving over time from an informal, self-funded organization to a formally recognized entity within TASB by 1990.

Our Vision

The Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members will continue to lead with vision and purpose, advancing equity in education, empowering African American students and educators, and shaping the future of public schools across Texas through advocacy, leadership development, and community engagement.
